[Nov. 13th, 2009|05:03 pm] |
She sat there, pondering, wondering, trying to remember snippets of wisdom she had heard in the woods.
She was supposed to write it down, but between leaving the woods, and getting home, the green thoughts of the forest had left her, and the rush of the real world came back to her. She had so much to do, and she wanted it done NOW. She needed to catch up with her neighbor and borrow some push-pins. She needed to work on a mask. She wanted to look up something on the internet, chat with friends, catch up with life. There was so much to do.
Back in the woods, however, she had sat at the base of the tree. One particular knot of root curved off the trunk before it plunged into the soil, and the curve of her back fit perfectly in it. The curve was just so that she could sit without sliding off and look up at the branches above her. Whenever she sat, she felt as if she was falling into the tree, caught in some sort of eddy of life that turned ever in on itself. Trees always turned in on themselves while branching outwards at the same time. In and out, around and around.
As she sat there, she felt the dizzying, inward rush, and the branches seemed to spread out above her, reaching for the sky, and for the other trees. One rather large branch kept waving at her as if to say "hello," even though there was no breeze to push it. The thought of a moving tree did not frighten her. Not even the rustling of leaves nearby startled her. Had it been another human she would have been frightened, but at the moment, a bear could have crossed her path and she would have just sat there, confident that the great creature would pass by.
That's when the tree spoke. It came not in a voice inside her head, but thoughts and suggestions and images whispered to her through the breeze that stirred in her mind and all around her; in and out, around and around. Images of old forests and older trees that were worshiped and thought to house gods. Maybe they were gods themselves. Maybe they became gods because people worshiped them.
"What a day," she sighed, not out of stress, but more as a way to start a conversation. Yes. I'm listening. She tried to talk about what had happened that day, sending out images of her own in her mind, confident that the spirit of the tree would at least hear her somehow, if not understand. But soon she lost track of her own thoughts and was pulled back into the rhythm of the tree. She tried again to think of the things she had to do, but once again her mind trickled away. Isn't it better just to sit for a while? Just Be, don't think. With a smile, she gave into the thoughts of the tree, adding only: "I really can't stay for long." You could become one, too. "Become what, a god?" Yes, in a sense. It take a lot of dedication and patience and sacrifice. "More than most humans would have," she thought, or had the tree said it? Or had they simply agreed?
She felt a tickle at the base of her spine like something warm and soft brushing against it. She reached back and found nothing, and decided the angle at which she was sitting was a bit uncomfortable. She tried to scoot up on the tree, but she slid down as if the tree had gently coaxed her to go. You don't want to fall asleep here. Her friend was right. She had left without locking the door, and the television had been left on. So with a smile she stood up and patted the tree with the promise that she would come again. You should come visit more often. "I will try," she said, "Maybe on Sunday...no...Monday? Whenever I can and I remember. I am going to be a very busy human soon." Humans are always busy. "It's a shame, but we are. Fare well, immortal friend." As she walked away, she heard the wind pick up. We are not immortal. "You should be" she whispered. "Of all the things and creatures of the forest, trees at least should be immortal." All things should be immortal. "He means the forest," she told herself. But we are not, and with reason, too. She knew that things died eventually. She saw trees falling by man's hand for shelter and fire, saw old trees topple to make way for new growth, for more soil and nutrients for the very earth the trees came from. She felt no sadness seeing this. It simply was the truth. The Earth would keep going long after humans were gone, and it would replenish itself. As she blindly followed the path she had followed a hundred times before, the thoughts of the tree fell behind her, and her own thoughts began to come through as if she were a radio fading from one frequency to the next. She began to remember all she had to do when she got home: borrow push-pins from the neighbor, catch up with her friends, look up something on the internet. Still, the memory of the tree lingered like a dream, its words floating through her, in and out, around and around.
She could see the tree, sitting in the forest, waiting for her. The sun shined brightly. Birds and squirrels chattering about, getting ready for winter. All the while, the tree waited for the return of its friend, one of the few humans who bothered to notice it was there at all. It seemed to whisper. It seemed to say...
I'm still here. |

[Nov. 13th, 2009|12:12 pm] |
So we went down to the D.B. today around 9 am which means we got there around 9:30. We unpacked a few things, cleaned up some cardboard clutter, and assembled the prep table out front. As 86 was checking out the cooler and freezer, he said "I wish I had gotten the ones with the caster wheels..." Then he opened up the cooler, and right on one of the boxes inside it said "Casters" :O We checked the freezer, and they had them, too! That's going to make cleaning behind and around them a million times easier.
Also, been working on a wolf mask with hinged jaw so it moves when I talk. I'd post pictures but apparently I can't on this account 9_9 so if you want to look, check out http://www.myspace.com/kujaboi and take a look at the pictures.
So yeah, stuff! |

| Update03 |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|11:39 am] |
So the hood system will be in by the 19th, Thursday, which means we will probably be open by the week after the 23rd because we'll have to do cleaning, then training, then health inspection. 86 is working on his FIFTY-FOUR PAGE business plan X_X. Also, he's in good standing with Sysco which means he'll be doing such good business with them that they're going to be able to lower prices and there will be no case count. If he needs half a case of yellow-tail, he'll get it without having to fork over extra and waste money for only half a shipment. That's good news for the customers. :)
That weekend, if anyone wants to help clean up, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your help guys, we really appreciate it! |

| Update02 |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|10:31 am] |
So yesterday was awesome. Tam and Nick came to help, and we managed to get the equipment in. It was only the first shipment, but we got the tables, chairs, both the freezer and fridge (which are both double-doored and HOOJ) as well as the prep table, 3 compartment sink, and a mini fridge that goes under the prep table where 86 will be doing all his rolling. We also got the register over there, and got a few things set up. We still need just a few more bits of equipment (which are already ordered) and the hood system which will be in... hell knows when 9_9. Also, the bar top will be put on shortly via 86's uncle. Once the whole shebang comes together, Health Dept. comes in, looks around, and once everything meets their standards, It's time to go!
There's sooo many things that need to be done, but it's all getting done.
Then we went to Evergreen Buffet for lunch.
Then after that we hung out at Matt's place with Nick and Tami and played pool and had chicken for dinner and stuff to drink. It was a good day. There was music playing, and we all had a good time. The boys played 9 ball, but I didn't think I'd be good at it so I didn't play. Besides, I got my sketchbook out which I had not done in a long while and got a few decent sketches in.
It was all good. |

So today 86 is getting most of his equipment in around noon. If anyone wants to come out, we'd be more than happy to have the help. I f not, it's cool. Don't know how long we'll be there, but I'll update you all once we get back.

| Getting Closer! |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|12:46 pm] |
So the Equipment for the D.B is starting to come in! 86 is saying he'll probably be open in a week and a half at most. Right now he's headed off to fax some stuff downtown. Totally exciting, right? ^_^ Also, we got the staff shirts coming in soon, too. 86 really needs to invest in a cell phone and a fax machine O_o.
Anyway, just thought I'd update. More to come later! |

My bro sent me the link to this. It was really cool. Two brothers made a short fan film. The monologue you hear is actually a love letter sent during the civil war, but the letter is so universal, it fits even in this film.

[Nov. 5th, 2009|05:41 pm] |
Okay, so I don't really cook anymore except for myself. The few times I try to cook for 86 he's never hungry when he gets home, and on top of that, do you know how hard it is to impress a chef? Dinner is hell. But once in a great while I like to think I pull off some good down-home cooking. There's a few things I do well, mostly sandwiches with some kind of salad on them, egg, chicken, tuna, etc. I also make a mean grilled cheese or grilled tuna or hot ham and cheese melt (again, sammiches), and I also make a damn good Ramen noodle by adding green onions, bean sprouts, or whatever I need. Once I added bacon. Best idea in a long time. I also make a good mac and cheese on occasion, and eggs are my bitch. I'm even a bit better at poaching them than 86 (ssshhh! Don't tell him I said that!). Also regarding eggs, I'm getting better at Egg Drop Soup.
So tonight, I'm making pork cutlets with cheesy rice, and brussle sprouts. Something tells me 86 won't be hungry when he gets home, but it's his loss. At least the neighbor might appreciate it.
I know my other friends would ^.^ |

| Autumn Forever |
[Nov. 2nd, 2009|09:56 pm] |
Orange and black run through my veins, My heart filled with autumn leaves. The burning Samhain fire in my eyes, and Bittersweet upon my tongue.
Bright is the full moon, Orange and high, My soul flying on wings of bats, the song on my lips, that of black cats.
The drums of the waltz of All Soul's Night, is the rhythm of my own Soul.
And there you dance, There, you Dance! A mythical faerie, beautiful as nature, hair so red.
To you alone, Old World Bard, do I sing my Autumn song.
Stay forever. Always sing. Always dance. Forever in my heart, Forever Autumn. |

| I feel old? |
[Nov. 2nd, 2009|01:01 pm] |
So I was watching Nightmare before Christmas last night, and our neighbor came over to borrow our phone real quick. While he was down in the livingroom, he asked how old this movie was. We looked all over the box for the original release date to no avail. I told him "Can't be more than ten years old."
Boy was I wrong O.o
The movie was made in 93! I said "Holy crap, I was only NINE when this movie came out?!?!" That makes the movie like...sixteen years old. Hard to believe it's that old.
I think I'm going to start making it a tradition to watch that movie the day after Halloween.
Also, finally got the Rocky Horror Picture Show and forced 86 to watch all the way through. We also got Dracula, Dead and Loving It which was funny and entertaining. It was just two more movies to add to my long list of Halloween-appropriate movies.
So 86 and I took a walk through the woods today. It was real nice. The sun was out, so it was rather warm. It was nice to go romping through the woods once in a while. Got to visit my fave tree. There's this spot at the base that is perfect for sitting because the root curves up into the trunk at that perfect lounging angle.
So far, a good day. I'm gonna go open the doors for a bit. Get some fresh air before winter takes over. |

| We're in the Zombie Room |
[Nov. 1st, 2009|02:07 pm] |
So we decided last minute to have a Halloween party. It turned out really cool. Nick and Tami came, and Matt came, and then around 10 o'clock, Obsidian called and said she was still coming with Ali, and then also mentioned like...six other people were coming along. Honestly I was a teeny bit worried at first, but when they came over, turns out one was Mongoose who goes to Dagorhir with us, and the rest were really cool, too. We totally had a blast except for the neighbor dude knocking on the ceiling once because we were a bit loud, but that didn't really matter because he was sleeping in his livingroom, and we told the guy we were having a party and he said that was fine. We had no further trouble.
We had just finished watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show because 86 mentioned never having seen it all the way through, so we bought it along with Dracula: Dead and Loving It which we never got to. There was pizza, pasta salad, chips and dip, and lots and LOTS of stuff to drink.
Max, you totally would have been invited but you just HAD to be at Sugoycon :P! It's okay, we'll forgive you this time. Hope you had a blast!
Anyway, stayed up till 2 am, which would have been 3 am if we didn't have to set the clocks back an hour.
DON'T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK!
Well, the place is trashed and 86 is doing all the work so I'd better get going! |

| Gothic Strange |
[Oct. 30th, 2009|01:13 pm] |
So in light of the current month, season, and weather (this lack of sun makes me feel like a vampire, minus the sparkles) I began to think about the most recent trend in entertainment that seems to be cropping up. Starting way back when the Rocky Horror Picture Show came out (and possibly before) it seems entertainment is finally taking this strange, macabre but entertaining twist. Or at least it's becoming more recognized. Everything from the band Ludo's poetic lyrics wailing about a love-hate relationship in "Love Me Dead" and what seems like a love-song about a murderer and a vampire in "The Horror of Our Love", to the recent Broadway-production-gone-movie called "Repo! The Genetic Opera", and many other things like Corpse Bride, Coraline, the Graveyard Book, even the classic "Nightmare Before Christmas," and now Alice in Wonderland. Even Ugly Dolls and the plushies that have skeletons sewn into them. (I forget the name, something like "Skelanimals" I have to say, it's a trend I like. There's something comforting about these sorts of entertainment that make light of the macabre. It reminds me of when I used to go up to St. Anne's Cemetery late at night in the winter. It would be so quiet and peaceful there. I've been called Gothic for doing such a thing, but I don't quite fit the bill. I have lots of tie-dye in my wardrobe and... well let's say I don't fit the stereotype.
Anyway, if there's anything that anyone can recommend along this genre, let me know. I'm always looking for more of this stuff. Also, throw in your opinion, and correct me if you know any other bits of entertainment that fit into this scheme. |

| Things! |
[Oct. 28th, 2009|06:42 pm] |
So! The dog is gone (yay!) and it has been nice to not have to worry about whether he's crapped in my house or not. Even 86 admits it's nice not having him around.
So the Beta is almost done. We just have to get the bar top done and the equipment in, and we can finally get this damned place open. Something tells me 86 is really getting nervous, or will be doing so very quickly.
Been jobless lately. Kinda sucks, but at the same time I've enjoyed having the house to myself. Been trying to go through things and get rid of a lot of it. Downsizing is always good. Just wish I could get 86 to spend 5 minutes going through stuff just so we can get rid of more of it.
Hoping to get a kitty soon. We're going to get a short-haired black cat and name it Samhain. :D
Been sick for the last couple weeks, and so has 86. Luckily he's 99.9999% over it, and I'm about 80% over it. I still have a slight cough caused by a tickle in my chest, and my right ear for some reason swells shut on random occasion, but my limphnodes were never swollen and I never had a fever, so it's all cool.
Anyway, that's what's happening so far. Oh! And I restarted Virgo Muse in book format. A buddy of mine said he could convert it to script later so I could turn it into a comic book.
Yeah, that's all.
-Ciao |
